Have to travel Galway to Dublin. Now the best time to go? Athlone the worst of it?
I would imagine that if you stick to the motorway the whole way, there should be no real problems, the snow is falling quite slowly so traffic should keep it claar.
Later in the day would be better though.

    Portlaoise is covered

@MetEireann Got the forecast spot on.
Adults should be able to interpret a forecast and not blame forecasters because they didn't get snow..
The "will it snow in x location" brigade could just as easily read the forecast themselves?

Yeah it's tricky enough. AA are reporting there was a collision on the M6 between Ballinasloe and Roscommon exits. Take her handy!!

It’s still pissing rain for about 12 hours now ...

Knock (206 m) steady at 13 cm lying snow at 9 am.

What are people's accumulations at lower levels (<150 m). Did we get the 4-8 cm range yet?

    100m as S Roscommon
10cm laying on the flat, plus drifts

Unfortunately turned back to sleety rain here in Kinnegad, oh well, just lost out on the wrong side of the margin for this event I guess.

Enjoy the snow all who got it!

Another shocker from boards' so called weather experts. Met Eireann the only place for actual valid predictions, leave it to the pros lads.

What does everyone think of Met Eireann’s performance here? Yesterday they were predicting significant accumulations of snow in Dublin but all it did was rain. I know of a couple of events that were cancelled on the basis of that forecast. Can they ever get anything right??

No they are useless. The majority of population live in Dublin so they need to get our forecast right. Thankfully we were out + about yesterday in park with our little boy + didn't wait for 'snow' today. Miserable day here so it's a day for indoor fun.

1.9c here now in West Clare, place is soaking outside. 43mm of rain overnight!

No precip now, however with the temperature dropping I have some hopes.

On way from Galway to Dublin on a bus... one lane all the way but moving. Taken an hour and a half to get to Athlone. Snow ploughs out in both directions. The accident around Ballinasloe is a truck that's gone off in a ditch heading westwards but traffic is moving

You didn't read the forecast did you?

Interesting to see the miserable dubs come out ;):)

I am 50 minutes from there in north cork and it's 6 degrees. Amazing the difference.

I'm just outside Limerick city, and it had been holding around 3.5 degrees and raining, in the space of an hour or so it dropped to 1.4 and started snowing lightly.

Flakes appear lighter and I think it's going to stop and then down it comes again...getting pretty Christmassy here in KK - kids are in their element making snowmen and snow angels...don't think they've seen snow like this in Ireland before!

Last night after the news I remember that they didn't include Dublin in their snow warning so I don't know what forecast you were looking at
