Help identifying rock markings

    Hi people.

    I hope I'm in the right place, I've asked in Geology but it seems busier here

    I found the attached rock on a beach on the South Coast recently. I promised my 6 year old I'd find out what caused the marks on the stone, not sure if it's clear on the pictures but there's even a couple of really smooth holes right the way through.

    I think those holes are made by a mollusc called the piddock, but it might be another kind of mollusc :)

    I too suspect it's a piddock rock caused by Zirfaea crispate.
