A "clerical error" at PGA Tour headquarters will result in 12 players getting an unexpected start this week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
The Tour's annual Las Vegas stop is typically staged in mid-October and boasts a field of 144 players, but this year it will be played in November for the first time. To compensate for the reduced daylight available during the later time slot, Tour officials planned to trim the field to 132 players.
But according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report, the change was never input into Tour computers, and players and agents were informed of their playing status based on a 144-man field.
"They realized the mistake, but at that point there was nothing they can do," said tournament director Patrick Lindsey. "We're the fifth event next year, and we are playing in November again. But we will have 132 in the field for 2017."
The mistake means that a dozen players will receive a start this week that they otherwise would not have. It also means that first- and second-round play will almost assuredly bleed into the following day, with sunset Thursday forecast for 5:42 p.m. local time at TPC Summerlin.
Based on the Tour's priority ranking for the 2016-17 season, the beneficiaries of the oversight include Mackenzie Hughes, Ryan Blaum, J.T. Poston, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Dominic Bozzelli, Rod Pampling, Seamus Power, C.T. Pan, Trey Mullinax, Kevin Tway, Will MacKenzie and Julian Etulain.

Finished at -4 and joint 36th. Great shooting. High quality field in this competition too.

True, if he does the same again tomorrow perhaps a win or top 4 finish. -7 and on 14th, not bad.

WMcK was 400/1 and -4 early in R3 but faded slightly, still -5 finish isn't too bad.
Streelman was 100/1 earlier and produced -7.

Looks like he had a great round today......I haven't been able to watch this tournament this week, but tomorrow I'll get to it. Great to see the Irish colours near the top of the leaderboard.

Didn't he do something similar in his final round last week? Maybe just an unfortunate coincidence but there might be some work to be done head-wise.

Just one birdie, so +3 for the day. Really disappointing.

Very disappointing final round once again. Just needs to keep putting himself in the positions though and these final round experiences should help him although I'm sure that triple at the first just caused an absolute brain meltdown.

GMac has made up 8 shots on him today. Shows you the value of experience.

It's a huge learning curve alright but I see a couple of wins in him or more in a long career hopefully.

Early days. If he keeps making cuts he has a chance. He obviously has the game -Thursday to Saturday at least.

    Pity..

That's twice now, he needs to get something going on Sunday...

The more he gets in position the better, but he is loosing a fortune,

While all around him folks are going low, he is having the worst game of anyone.

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

There is a re-ranking of his eligibility category (i.e. card earned through Web.com tour) after this weeks event. Currently he will improve by about 10 spots but could have been a lot better off with a good round yesterday

Getting a better ranking could make all the difference getting into events once the big names come back on tour in the new year.

After a horrible double-bogey on 14, he makes birdie-birdie-birdie finish to make the cut on -5 !

He's 9 off the leader but some day this lad will hit the jackpot.

All he needs is to have one good Sunday.

Fair play to him. Finishing with 3 birdies to make the cut on the mark shows some guts!
