Hi all,

    Is the minor category still available or have they got rid of that? [seen it on old scratch cup posts] and what handicap is the intermediate range?

    Still around but have always been reasonably rare. You can search for them specifically on the GUI site Open Fixtures. Or even just use google.

    Intermediate range changes depending on the venue. Can never understand why the handicap ranges are not just fixed. Tralee last year had intermediate from 9-17 while Ballybunion was 12-18.

    Surely it should be <5 senior, 5-11 Junior, 12-18 Intermdiate and 19+ Minor. That would roughly fit in with the various interclub team comp ranges too

    Moate should read Junior, Intermediate and Minor for now. I don't think the Senior will go ahead. We had one 2 years ago but not last year.

    Varies by course unfortunately. A general rule of thumb would be Senior <5, Junior 6-11, Intermediate 12-18 and minor 19+

    Iv been wrecking my head emailing Golf Clubs and trying to gather info on Scratch Cups and uploading them to Facebook - wish I checked this out 1st :-(

    On these limits any inclination whether the changes to team comps will alter the handicap brackets applied to these competitions?

    For example, I know of a Junior Scratch coming up in March which now includes 4 handicappers to coincide with the availability of 4 handicappers to play Junior Cup.

    Will it be the case that Intermediate Scratch’s will go to 11 over the most common 12-17 brackets. Accepting that there are plenty of Scratch Cups that operate varying handicap ranges

    I contacted a few clubs then I rang Munster GUI - Munster GUI said every Club chooses the Handicaps ranges and GUI Inter Clubs Comps have NOTHING to do with how a Club runs a Scratch Cup.
    (They did state some clubs may put Junior from 4-10 and Intermediate 11-18 if they want THEIR TEAMS to practice and watch them) other clubs will follow "normal" format

    Hope this makes sense

    Makes perfect sense.

    I do think there is scope for the GUI to set down the parameters for each of these competitions though

    I see Intermediate is on Tralee on 9th June this year. A bit later than normal.

    Anyone any idea if Ballybunion have followed suit? I can't find info for them

    Listed on Golfnet for the day after Tralee with a handicap range of 12-17

    They have also managed to coordinate the Junior scratch cups to be over one weekend at the end of May.

    That makes it all the more annoying that my 11 handicap qualifies me for the Tralee Intermediate and the Ballybunion Junior :mad:

    Having said that, I'm currently 11.2 having drifted from 10.8.
    Quite likely I will be off 12 by then if I continue to play as I did on Wednesday :(

    Should the 36 holes in scratch cups be reduced. Its a bit of a slog for older guys and people with health issues.

    Just an open singles if its only 18 imo. 36 is a proper test and separates the men from the boys. Anyone can fluke a score over 18. Much harder to do it over 36.
