As of Jul 7 2012, This supersedes the previous forum charter.
    Airsoft Adverts Forum Rules

All users of this forum are required to read and understand these rules before posting here.
If you start a new thread or post here, it will be taken for granted that you have read and are familiar with all the rules. "I didn't know that was a rule" is not an excuse. Not reading the rules is against the rules.

This forum is for private individuals buying, selling and trading Airsoft related equipment.

How it works here (short version):
    • You place an ad - you state how much you want for the item.
    • People may ask questions and make offers up to and including the asking price. All negotiations, photos, terms of delivery etc are made in public until such time as a deal is agreed and you need to exchange private details.
    • First person to offer the asking price is first in line for the item for sale.
    • Once the asking price is met or you accept an lower offer (that price then becomes the new asking price) you agree to deal and exchange details privately.
    • If the deal falls through, you deal with the next person to have offered asking price, or, accept another lower offer if nobody has offered asking.
    • Once the item is sold, you ask a mod to mark the thread as sold.
Please read our guidelines for safe buying and selling online.

Here are the actual rules - these may seem horribly complex at first but really they're not and don't take much getting used to. They are designed to be as fair as possible to everyone.

(This is a summary, please click the link on each item for a more detailed explanation)
    1. Honesty. This is the cardinal rule. Anyone acting in a dishonest manner will have their access removed.
    2. Ad Format. When placing an advert, it must conform to the following format.
    3. Energy Rating. All Airsoft devices traded here must be below 1 joule. This means below 328fps or 100m/s with a 0.2g bb
    4. Age Limit. You must be over 16 years of age to use this forum
    5. Prohibited Items. You may not attempt to buy / sell / trade any prohibited item
    6. Off Thread Dealing. Off thread dealing is prohibited.
    7. Contact Details. No contact details allowed on-thread.
    8. Asking Price. Respect the asking price rules.
    9. Valid Offers. Post genuine and valid offers only.
    10. Multiple offers. No posting multiple offers on similar ads.
    11. Thread-spoiling. No thread spoiling / thread-jacking / overpricing / profiteering / lowballing.
    12. Bumping. No excessive bumping
    13. Honour your post. Honour your commitment to buy or sell.
    14. Selling Elsewhere. No selling elsewhere or withdrawing your ad if there is active interest in it here.
    15. Price Checking. No interest / price testing.
    16. Duplicate accounts. No duplicate / shill accounts.
    17. Dead threads. Please check the date on an ad before posting a reply - if there has been no activity in a thread for two months then consider it dead.
    18. All communications in English. Boards.ie is, for the most part, an English speaking site and in order for moderators to perform effectively in this forum and for the vast majority of users to understand what is being said, all communication shall be in English.
    19. Commercial sales/traders. Selling goods in the course of a business is not allowed on Airsoft Adverts. There is a retailer's forum for that purpose, contact the moderators for details and conditions of use.
The Consumer Information Advertisements Disclosure of Business Interests Order 1984 (Republic of Ireland) requires all advertisements from persons selling goods in the course of a business to make that fact clear.
Boards.ie general posting guidelines apply to every forum on boards and are to be considered rules of this forum: *** While we appreciate helpful advice being given to new users about the rules, and in most cases will overlook this as regards backseat moderation, When you see someone who clearly is not aware of the rules, we urge you to confine it to a single polite post to read the rules, point them here, and not get into a discussion about it on someone's thread. When this happens, please report the post so the mods are made aware of it - there may be background that only mods are aware of.

If you see any post that you think breaches the rules or, indeed, causes suspicion that it was posted by a previously banned re-reg user or you suspect is any form of scam or dishonest behaviour, please use the report function (report.gif symbol underneath the user-name on every post) to bring it to the mods attention. This helps all users of the forum.

If you are unclear about any of the rules or how they apply to your situation, you may:
    • Ask in the [RULES QUESTIONS] thread.
    • Report a post to bring it to the mods attention.
    • PM any of the mods about it.
Reporting the post is a better option as all mods get the report whereas sending a PM will not be seen until the next time that mod is online.

    When an item is sold:
You must promptly mark your item as [SOLD] once the item has been sold. If the time limit for editing the initial post has expired, please use the 'report' feature and ask a moderator to mark it as sold. Please do not request a thread to be locked after an item is closed, this is only done on troublesome or duplicate threads.

    Withdrawing an ad:
If you wish to withdraw an ad (to sell elsewhere for example), please notify a mod. Provided there has been no active interest in the previous 24 hours then you may request it is marked as withdrawn and there is no rule breach. If there is active interest or outstanding enquiries than it may incur a penalty..

    User Feedback:
There is a User Feedback Thread where you can post honest feedback about someone you have dealt with. Read the rules in the first post before using the thread. You can find some more information on using the user feedback thread here.

    Rule Breaches:
Breaches of any of the above rules will attract a penalty.
The penalty, at the discretion of the moderator may range from a moderator posting a polite warning on-thread - to an official warning (red / yellow card) - to a ban.

Depending on the severity of the situation, a moderator may post in a thread using bold font, this is considered to be an official post and its content must not be ignored. In lesser circumstances a moderator may post a non-bold reminder of the rules or helpful pointer to a less experienced forum user. In either case, if you wish to question or reply to what the moderator posted then please do not do so on-thread, please pm the moderator concerned.

    Appeals:
If you wish to dispute any ban or warning, your first step is to contact the moderator concerned. You automatically receive a PM from the mod when a warning or ban is issued.
Please note that the ban / warning reason is selected from a predetermined list and may in some circumstances not be 100% appropriate to the circumstances. In those cases we will endeavour to explain either by a separate PM or by inclusion of a short note. If you are unsure then please PM.

If you are unsatisfied with that then you can follow the boards.ie dispute resolution procedure.

If you are unhappy with any other aspect of moderation (not directly including a warning or ban) then you can contact a category mod or admin and bring it to their attention. The current Category Mods (CMods) for Sport are listed at the bottom of this forum.

If you have any feedback or suggestions about Airsoft Adverts, please feel free to post them in the [FEEDBACK] thread.
Above all, Welcome to the Airsoft Adverts forum and happy trading.

All items must be below 1 joule

By law, any Airsoft device in Ireland must have a muzzle energy not exceeding one joule. Any device exceeding this limit requires a firearms license and can not be bought, sold or traded on this forum.

    Here's why:
So what's the story with Airsoft/paintball/pellet guns? Well, first off, they were once illegal. In 1964, they were deemed to be firearms by the 1964 Firearms Act which read:
    2. -(1) In the Principal Act and this Act, "firearm" shall include an air-gun (which expression includes an air rifle and an air pistol) and any other weapon incorporating a barrel from which metal or other slugs can be discharged and a prohibited weapon
Here, Principal Act meant the Firearms Acts 1925-1964, as amended.

What all that meant was that to have any kind of air-gun, be it Airsoft, air rifle, air pistol, paintball, BB gun, anything that used air to fire a projectile from a barrel - you had to have a firearms licence or you were breaking the law.

Yes, that did mean that suction cup dart guns and nerf guns and a dozen other kids toys were legally firearms.

Yes, Gardai did occasionally enforce this - usually at ports on people coming back from abroad with pellet guns of some kind in their luggage. They'd confiscate and destroy the guns and there'd be a warning put in the local papers.

The reason this didn't happen anywhere else was that everywhere else, the air-gun had to be over a certain strength to be a firearm. This strength was specified, not in muzzle velocity or pellet weight, but in terms of kinetic energy of the projectile at the moment it left the barrel which was referred to as the muzzle energy of the firearm.

In the UK, air rifles had to exceed 12 foot pounds and air pistols had to exceed 6 foot pounds to be considered firearms. In the North, the limit was made lower by recent firearms acts to 1 joule. In Germany and most of Europe, the limit was set at 7 joules. (Foot pounds were the imperial measure, Joules is the SI or metric measure).

Okay, so has that changed in Ireland? Yes, it has. The 2006 Criminal Justice Act altered the Firearms Acts in Ireland. According to the Firearms Acts, 1925-2006 as amended, a firearm is now defined as (at least in relation to air-guns):
an air gun (including an air rifle and air pistol) with a muzzle energy greater than one joule or any other weapon incorporating a barrel from which any projectile can be discharged with such a muzzle energy,
    Criminal Justice Act 2006

If you are unsure about the energy rating of your Airsoft device, you should contact your nearest site or retailer and they can test it for you. A lot of retailers can also modify Airsoft devices to bring them within the legal limit.

There is an online calculator here you can use to calculate energy based on muzzle velocity and bb weight:
    https://www.pyramydair.com/airgun-resources/widgets/convert.php?Units&u=16

A general rule of thumb is the muzzle velocity should not exceed 328fps (feet per second) or 100m/s (meters per second) using a 0.2g bb.

You must be over 16 years of age use this forum

Under Irish law, it is not permitted to sell a RIF (realistic imitation firearm) to a person under the age of 16 years.

Therefore this forum is not to be used by anyone under 16 years of age.

The moderators have no way to accurately determine a users age so they reserve the right to remove access to any user they suspect is in breach of this rule. Normally, access will be restored when, either the user reaches 16 years of age, or they can prove to us that they are not in breach of this rule.

Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009:
    9D.-
    (2) On and after the date of commencement of section 40 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2009 it is an offence for a person to sell a realistic imitation firearm to a person under the age of 16 years.

    No off-thread dealing

All dealings, bargaining, photos, information, offers, etc. must be posted on the thread.

PM or other contact is not allowed until a deal is agreed.
    • Off thread dealing includes any contact by PM, email, phone, other social media sites, chat in real life or any other means other than posting here.
    • Anybody found to have contacted a buyer or seller off-thread about an item advertised here before a deal is agreed is breaching our rules.
    • Anybody found to have been contacted by a buyer or seller about an item advertised here before a deal is agreed and fais to notify a mod is breaching our rules.
    • A deal is only agreed when the seller posts their acceptance of an offer on the thread.

The only exception to this is, in the case of a high value item, where a buyer posts an offer on condition that they can inspect / test it first. In this case, an offer must be posted first and may not be re-negotiated off thread following the inspection.

Comments soliciting off thread dealing are also not allowed.
    For example:
    "pm me, I'm interested"
    "I offer €xx, pm me"
"pm more details / email me pics please"
"I'll buy it - oh ate seven wun too tree for five six seven ate"
For the same reason, posting contact details / phone numbers / email addresses / social media links etc / on-thread is not allowed

Asking price rules and making offers

    Asking price:
The seller must post an asking price on every advert (except items for swap / trade or wanted items).
The asking price is defined as: "the last price at which the seller has agreed to sell".
    • If a seller accepts or agrees to a lower offer than the previous asking price, the lower becomes the new asking price.
    • If a seller posts a 'price drop' and it is lower than the previous asking price then it become the new asking price.
    • The seller can never increase the asking price - once it is reduced, it cannot be increased again.
    • A buyer can not offer above the asking price.
    • A seller can not accept an offer above the asking price.
    • The first buyer to offer the asking price becomes first in line for the item.
    • Anyone subsequently offering asking price become next in line as their posts appear in the thread If the original deal falls through, they become first in line.
    • The seller cannot choose to sell to someone who is not first in line without good reason and without seeking permission from the mods.
    • The exception to the above is this: If more than one user posts asking price but one agrees to 'collect & meet face to face' and the other offers to 'deal by post / courier', then, as long as the postal offer had not been already accepted, the seller may choose the 'meet face-to-face' offer as it is considered stronger. This is conditional on the seller saying that they will accept meeting face-to-face or dealing via post in the original ad.

    Multiple Items in an ad:
In the case of multiple items for sale as a 'job lot', the following also applies:
    • A seller may post multiple items for sale as a job-lot and post an overall asking price for this.
    • In addition to the above, a seller may post individual prices for items within a 'job lot'.
    • If an offer of asking price for the 'job lot' price is posted, subsequent offers on individual items must not be accepted.
    • If an offer below asking price for the 'job lot' price is posted and accepted, subsequent offers on individual items must not be accepted.
    • If an offer of asking price for an individual item is posted, subsequent offers on the 'job lot' must not be accepted.
    • If an offer of below asking price for an individual item is posted and accepted, subsequent offers on the 'job lot' must not be accepted.

    Offers:
All offers made must be clear and unambiguous. Vauge offers are not permitted and may, at moderators discretion, be deemed invalid.

    Examples of valid offers are:
    "Offer €xx"
    "Offer asking price"
    "Offer asking price pending inspection"
"Offer asking price if it is (whatever condition)"
    Examples of vague offers are:
    "I'm interested"
    "I'll take it"
    "Yeah"
    "sounds good"
Comments soliciting off thread dealing are not allowed:
    "pm me, I'm interested"
    "I offer €xx, pm me"
"pm more details / email me pics please"
Posting Multiple offers on similar items:
While it's understandable that you may be anxious to secure a particular item in a hurry, please don't post the same offer on many similar ads unless you plan to be able to pay for them all if the offers are accepted.
You may post offers on a maximum of three similar items, any more than that then all your offers may be removed if they are reported.
If one of your offers is accepted and you don't intend to buy more than one of the item, you must promptly withdraw your offers on the other ads - even if you haven't finalised the deal on the first one yet.

    Thread spoiling/profiteering/thread-jacking/lowballing.

    Thread spoiling:
    What is thread spoiling?
Essentially, thread spoiling is posting a comment on someones ad that is not an offer or a question relevant to the thread and is not permitted.

Comments such as these are all thread spoiling.:
    "Oooh, that's a nice <item>, I wish I could afford it"
"Heh, you can get it cheaper from <wherever>"
    "Happy birthday"
"I have the same one for sale, check out my ad"

    However, comments such as:
"I can get this from <link to exact same item with delivery and any VAT / Customs charges transport charges / downgrading included> for €xxx so in light of that I'll offer you €xxx for yours."
Are OK provided you are making a genuine offer and using the link to the same item elsewhere to justify your offer.

    Profiteering:
    What is Profiteering?
Profiteering is selling an item above RRP because it's scarce in supply and / or in high demand and is not permitted.

If you believe someone is profiteering then please report the post and include a link to where the exact same item can normally be purchased for less. This must take into account any VAT / import duties / transport charges / downgrading / accessories - basically it must be a price for the exact same item being offered here, delivered in Ireland and fully legal. If the mods agree then we will post those fact on thread. Do not take it upon yourself to post on our behalf.

    Thread-jacking:
    What is thread-jacking?
There are two forms of thread-jacking:
    • Offering your item on someone else's for-sale or for-trade ad.
This is strictly forbidden. If you have something for sale then create your own ad for it or offer it on a wanted ad.
    • Posting an offer on an item on someone else's wanted thread is forbidden.
If you see an item being offered on someone else's wanted ad and you are interested in it, you must not post on their ad to say so.
In this case, you have several options:
      1. If the person offering the item has a for-sale or for-trade ad then you may post an offer there.
      2. You can create your own wanted ad for the item and hope that they offer you the item.
      3. If the item in the other persons ad (and any other ad it may have been offered in) is rejected and none of the above options apply then you may contact the person who offered it by PM. In that case the trading rules of this forum do not apply and you are on your own as far as conducting the trade goes.
    Lowballing:
    What is Lowballing?
Lowballing is deliberately posting a low or nonsense offer that unnecessarily devalues or ridicules the item for sale and is not permitted.
Do not post offers such as these just because you think it is worthless.
"offer a bag of jelly beans"
    "offer my granny"
"offer €0.50 for that POS AEG"

If you believe the item is way overpriced then report it, provide some evidence if you can and a mod will post a warning to potential buyers on-thread as appropriate.

The rule of thumb for all of the above is - if you're not interested in trading then don't post.

    No excessive bumping.

Bumping is posting something pointless in your thread in order to push it back to the top of the listing in the adverts forum.

You may not 'bump' sooner than 24 hours after the last post on the thread.

Any post is considered bumping except for the following:
    • Posting a price drop. (It must be an actual real price drop, i.e. not a drop from €10 to €9.99.. mods reserve the right to judge this)
    • Answering a question asked by another user.
    • Accepting an offer or negotiating a deal.
    • Posting more information about the item for sale (e.g. adding photos, more specifications)
Moderators decision is final on what constitutes bumping.

Provided 24 hours have passed since the last post, you may simply post 'bump' or 'lil furry kittens' or whatever takes your fancy to bring your ad back to the top.

Honour your commitment to buy or sell.

As a seller, you are committed:
    • To keep all dealings bargaining, offers, etc. on the thread. PMs are not allowed until an offer / provisional offer has been accepted.
    • To always include an asking price on your For Sale ads. Please keep all prices fair and do not increase the asking price after a first comment has been made.
    • To keep all listings accurate and current. Mark your item as sold as soon as a deal is completed.
    • To only post one ad per item / group of items. Multiple and duplicate ads will be deleted.
    • To complete the sale of your item(s) here on Airsoft Adverts if a member or members have expressed active, definite interest.
    • To sell to the first bidder offering asking price (unconditional offers have priority over conditional offers)

    No duplicate or shill accounts.

    Duplicate accounts are not permitted.
Anyone found using a duplicate account will have their access removed without warning.

    Shill accounts are not permitted.
Shilling is using a duplicate account or a friends account to feign interest in an item in order to increase its apparent value. Anyone found engaging in this will have all accounts involved banned.

Guidelines for buying and selling online

Trading online is generally a safe and enjoyable experience. On Boards.ie, being a community website, the vast majority of users are trustworthy and genuine. However, we always recommend being careful when dealing with someone you don't know.

    Safe buying / selling online

Follow the steps below to avoid dealing with fraudulent users and have safe dealings online:
    • Check out the user you wish to deal with:

Click on the username to and click "Find more posts by <user>" in the drop-down list. You can narrow the search down by clicking the Airsoft adverts link in the list of forums on the left.

You can then see any previous threads they have posted in here and get an idea of how they conducted previous deals and / or previous items they have bought or sold here.

Check the user's feeedback in the feedback thread as follows:

To find feedback left for a user then use the following method:
(copy and paste the link below into your browsers URL bar and replace <username> with the username you are interested in).
      e.g: http://www.boards.ie/search/submit/?thread=2055848045&query=thermo
      http://www.boards.ie/search/submit/?thread=2055848045&query=<username>

Check what feedback the user left for others by clicking the following link and then clicking the number of posts they made in the thread on the right hand side:
      http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/misc.php?do=whoposted&t=2055848045
(sorry there isn't a more user friendly way to search these)
    • Read the ad carefully
Take the time to read the ad(what's included, postage costs, expiry date and name on vouchers, etc) before you make an offer.
IF IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS POSSIBLY A SCAM!
    • Beware of fake /pirated goods.
These are illegal and not allowed on our site. Please report the ad if you are suspicious (by clicking on the report button)
    • Keep all comments on thread.
Disputes involving PMs are almost impossible to resolve.
DO NOT post your personal contact details in any advert.
    • Never buy / sell to foreign countries.
It often involves a shipping company and foreign money transfer and is a common approach used by scammers.
    • Once a deal is agreed:
Get a phone number and exact details on how to proceed with the sale.

      Recommended:
      Full name
Full address and postcode (if applicable)
      Telephone number (Landline is better)
      Preferred and alternative e-mail addresses
Confirmation of details of the trade
      Payment method
Clearly state your understanding of when you expect the money or goods to be sent
Print out or make a note on paper of the contact details of the above person. It is not unheard of for people to lose such information stored on a PC due to virus or hard drive problems. Should there be any delay in completion then both parties will have full contact details to hand.

    Safe transaction advice
    • Meet in Person - where possible.
Meet face to face, in public places. Of course, this is not always possible as users are based all over the country. The benefits here are that you get to see whatever it is you are purchasing (or ensure the correct amount of money is being given) before committing. Check the item before you part with money.
    • NEVER carry large sums of money with you.
When buying expensive items, we suggest you meet and check the item first, and then arrange to meet again to pay for the item.
    • Use Registered Mail
If meeting up is not an option, we highly recommend using registered mail or insist on it for postage of items. This way, the parcel is both insured and is traceable. For any moderately valued item (€100+, and even below) it is worth paying the extra cash to ensure peace of mind if there is a problem with postage. We would also advise sellers to include the cost of registered mail in their ad(s)
    • Pay with Cash
Paying cash hand in hand (never send cash by post!) is the safest payment method.
    • NEVER accept funds via Western Union or other Electronic Fund Transfer services
(non-bank, point-to-point cash transfers). This is the most common payment method used by scammers and is not traceable.
    • Receiving payment by cheque and bankdraft is not 100% secure.
Forged bankdrafts are on the rise. If you receive a bankdraft for more than the amount you asked for, this is a scam, contact us immediately.
    • Use PayPal
While there is a charge for the usage of PayPal, it provides a user-friendly interface between you and your credit card company, and is a welcome alternative to giving your credit card number to the seller! In the event of a problem, PayPal can make use of the fraud protection system of your credit card company and get your money back. We recommend that you get a name, address, and landline number on the off chance that a dispute arises.
Please be aware that if you send payment and mark it as a "gift" in order to avail of the reduced transaction fees - in the event of a dispute, paypal will not get involved to help you resolve it. Please read their terms of use for more information.

    FAQ's
    • Problems contacting the buyer / seller:
Once the deal is agreed, make sure both seller and buyer know when to expect a meeting / delivery.
Many unplanned circumstances can cause a delay or break in communication, so try to stay polite and patient when awaiting an answer. If the seller / buyer is not answering your emails/phone calls, please contact us and we will be happy to try and help.
Please remember that 99% of our users are genuine, and most problems between buyers and sellers are due to a lack of communication.
    • I think someone has tried to scam me. What should I do?
Report the advert, using the report button, or contact us directly, listing all the details, including any exchanged conversation.
We will help you to the best of our abilities and hopefully resolve the situation.
If we are unable to help you get a refund etc., contact your local Garda station and give them details of the scam, and we will supply them as much information as we can.

    Top tips to avoid scams:
    • Always meet in person
    • Never send any money by Western Union
    • Use registered Post
    • If in doubt, contact us for advice immediately

if a "wanted" thread is posted in airsoft adverts or a "where can i get a x item" in the questions forum, a retailer may say yes i have them and then include a link to their thread in the commercial forum.
this is only allowed for fully paid up retailers who have an open thread in their commercial forum.

we ask that replies be limited to one post to include a link to the posters (retailers/site) thread.
