what with all this eclipse stuff recently, i was reminded of an Asimov book i read ages ago, "Nightfall" i think it was.

The basic idea revolved around a planet that, due to its fu(ked up orbit, only experinced nightfall every 3000 years or so. Needless to say this was a pretty big mind fu(k for the hapless inhabitants of the planet, who basically went out of their heads once the sun went down.
