Apparently it was part of his contract that he'd star in and direct a new solo Batman movie, he's due to start when he completes his next project which I guess would give it a 2019 release date.

Personally, I don't think we need a new vision of the series. I think Batman at this point would be better returning to TV alongside the likes of Arrow and The Flash.

After what I'm assuming will be insane, massive scale action in BvS I think making a solo batman movie that lives up to what he was seen to be capable of in BvS will be a real challenge, especially because they'll really need to choose the villian(s) very particularly.

I hope that in one of his solo movies, an updated bane makes an appereance. Being a batman fan himself, he surely would make an awesome Knightfall adaptation.

I get the feeling that the Joker would be the bad guy for this

I'd love to see an adaptation of the red hood storyline. It fits perfectly into the older batman that they are trying to create.

Now that, I'd want to see. Jack as the batman.

I read elsewhere deathstroke will play a major role in this after first being introduced with a minor role in the justice league.

d'oh - I'd originally typed "Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger" then I remembered Ledger didn't play Batman and is also dead. I'm asleep :o

So Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale and Affleck as "The 5 Batmen" - sounds good to me!

He was absolutely fantastic as Batman in BvS .. the only thing I didn't like about that film was introducing other JL characters - so I hope it sticks to Batman and 1 maybe 2 villains...

I would love for Carrey to return as the Riddler.

I'd rather they dug up Frank Gorshin's corpse and Weekend-At-Bernies'ed him as the Riddler than have Carrey back :D

Apparently Matt Reeves is the director now.

I liked Cloverfield. Thought Dawn of the planet of the apes was great and I'm very much looking forward to war. But I don't think I've seen much else from him.

    A little underwhelmed tbh.

    Very underwhelming.

Reeves is a good catch if true. He’s probably the best director of a DCEU film to date. And they got him at a good time because if War is as good as Dawn he’ll soon be elevated to A-list status. Shame Disney didn’t nab him for Episode 9.

Warners at least seem to have recognised the terrible mistake they made with Snyder.

Given the directorial hirings so far this surely must seem like a good move; Reeves is no pulse quickener yes, but he's a safe and reliable pair of hands, amd importantly has a solid CV with good mid-range blockbuster successes. It comes across like an acknowledgement that Synder and Ayer have been empty vessels making a lot of noise.

Talks with Reeves have broken down according to THR.

This may be connected to recent rumours that Affleck is trying to get out of his contract.

Matt Reeves is IN according to both his and Ben Afflecks Twitter. Happy enough with that I must say.

The release date is now being reported as 'pushed back to 2019' for The Batman.
If the rumor of a 2019 release date is true, it gives director Matt Reeves a lot more time to to write the movie that he wants to see. The director has brought up his fondness for Christopher Nolan's ability to bring legitimacy to the comic book movie genre with the Dark Knight trilogy and has hinted that he would like to take The Batman in a similar direction. But this time, giving moviegoers more of an insight into how Batman ticks. Reeves has also stated that the movie is influenced by the works of Alfred Hitchcock, giving viewers the perspective of Batman in a more detailed way than has ever been seen before on the big screen.

The rumored 2019 release date also brings up questions of the DCEU timeline and where The Batman might fit in to movies like Justice League and its sequel. A projected release date for Justice League 2 is summer of 2019, so where would The Batman fall? Could it be before the events of the sequel or after? Again, this is speculation at this point, but it does raise an interesting question of wondering where The Batman will fall into line if it is indeed released in 2019. The project will definitely have an impact on Justice League 2 regardless of when it's released.

While the rumor of a projected release date of 2019 may seem like a bummer to Batman fans, it does make a lot of sense logistically. The move to start over from scratch was a big indicator that the movie could be pushed back and production was to already have started by now for the original March 2018 release date. If anything, fans should be excited that the movie is hitting the breaks in an effort to deliver the best possible project possible.

Warner Bros. is eyeing a November 2019 production start on The Batman with Ben Affleck still reportedly out

Man, my enthusiasm for all features DC related really has bottomed out. Aquaman was the final straw, to hell with these slipshod films. The only one that still has my slimmest interest is the Joker spinoff of all things, and that's purely down to Phoenix and the supposed "mob thriller" approach. And any new Batman production needs to go back to basics - something I suspect is not in the vocabulary of WBDC...

Isn’t that what’s this production has always been about?
