Skipping Rope ! People taking up walkways etc skipping, that give you the evils when you ask them to move out of the effing way.

Instructors who insist on using 3/4/5 pieces of equipment to put a client through a circuit, but refuse to let you work in on one piece.

Failure to re-rack weights, even though it has led to weights being removed from the floor so you have to spend ages looking for the one pair of matching dumbbells for your set

There's a cohort of guys at my gym who on seeing each other, shake hands and hug, then they proceed to shout at each other across the gym while they work out separately.

During the winter a few years ago a well known intercounty hurler used to come in to the gym at about half nine or so, gym closed at ten. He would ask the receptionist to sign him in "log him on the county team gym record sheet" and then just go in for a shower.

That wasn't really what annoyed me though.

Before going in to the shower he used to wrap his boxers around the head of the hair dryer and turn it on. He would leave that running while in the shower.

20 minutes later he'd be out the door with a toasty ball sack and the county manager feeling the lads are putting in the effort.

Doing rehab from an injury in a gym well known for its overcrowding, have an excersise moving from a reserve lunge to a step up takes a little bit of space. The amount of idiots walking right behind me i have hit into mid excersise is rediculous.

In the gym I was in there was 1 guy who used to skip right in front of dumbell rack. Basically stopping everyone else from getting to the weights.

This sounds a bit like someone reversing out onto a road complaining about all the cars hitting them.

(People don't expect other people to suddenly lunge backwards, it's your responsibility to make sure it's clear)

It's strange, my current gym has only normal nice people, I still can't get used to it.
In my old gym however I turned my back on the bar while warming up on Deadlift and when I turned back I noticed that my chalk bag was quite flat and had a footprint on it.
There was only one other guy in the gym and he was walking away with an invisible telly under each arm (the big man walk).
I'm not particularly big so I presume this was him trying to make himself feel better about some insecurity or another by figuratively kicking sand in my face.
I just kept throwing on the plates and smiling at him..... one of the 2 things made him uncomfortable anyway because he lost the 2 invisible telly's and shuffled off into a corner out of the way

I arrived at a gym in England last year to find a squad car outside. The police were inside escorting a guy from the weights section to the front door. No idea what it was about. That episode summed up the gym. It was a pile of ****e.

Was it in Plymouth by any chance? The one I'm at now has some right characters.

edit: story removed incase the world is small!

Probably some guy caught with his wheyroids and creabols stash. Poor guy was only trying to make some gains.

Don't you know that they have to do that #clangingandbanging bro.

I actually experienced such a fool in my gym on Thursday. Everytime he slammed the bar down he just postured and looked around to see if anyone was looking at him.

Type of bloke to be laughed at.

There's a PT in Flyefit Macken St who puts a 24inch plyo box in a power cage and then has his client stand in front of it and do anything from deadlifts to curls. They never once use the cage or the box but take the use of both away from anyone else who may want to use them. They spend a good 45 mins with that set up but will often walk away to do other things and leave all the stuff set up so no one else can move it. He's also a shîte PT from everything I've seen him do with his clients. Infuriating.

I like to get in and out. Only things that annoy me is any behavior that unnecessarily impedes that. Like taking 10 mins between Squats due to talking. Suppose any piece of equipment. Basically if you use something without any consideration of others. You're a dick.

Nothing wrecks my head more than dropping weights , I can stand just about anything but cunce dropping weights , I was in a gym in London that had a sign at the weights rack saying " if you can't put them down quitely , don't pick them up "

fairly annoying alright but i do think people are rushing around too much. i spend a couple of hours in the gym at a time taking my time. yes that means you ll be waiting for me to finish with a piece of equipment. slow down and enjoy your work out. it isnt a race

To be fair I tend to go at lunchtime and want to burst through a session in 45 mins. It's a fairly common thing, could be 10 or 15 suits hanging up in the changing room at 12:30. If I couldn't get it done in an hour I'd have to question my intensity.

thats fair enough i guess but i do know others that do something similar to you. i guess its just not for me. exercise time is where you should slow the world down and connect with yourself. people really are running around too much. i have intense periods in my routine but mainly its nice and slow and relaxing.

I prefer going in the evenings so I have a bit less clock watching on my own part but people could have all sorts of things to rush off to, so whatever works

Regarding the bar slamming... For deadlifts and barbell rows, I tend to not lower it down slowly and it is kinda loud. I never let it fall out of my hands and always drop with it. Is that frowned upon? If I lower slowly, I tend to get lower back ache.

People who think it somehow thinks its possible to re-rack 40kg+ dumbells without dropping them and making some noise after a hard set, that's why they and the floor are rubberized, I will be damned if I will tear my rotator cuff so you can pretend its a library whilst scribbling in your training diary......

My pet peeve is people that train so skinking of BO that I can taste it, I dont mind the smell of a gym, its a place of sweat and effort, I have had to train in a old tee cause I forgot a clean one, but you all know some fellas be stinking really bad.

Usually said smelly fellow will pass by you just before some good looking girl sits on the next bench, making her think you skink like a tramp. :o

I'm thinking more of the guys who drop weights from hip height while staring themselves out of it at the mirror after doing 3 reps on the guns

There's a big difference between making some noise and just abandoning them mid-air.

Fresh sweat doesn't smell, so they're either not washing themselves or they're wearing filthy old clothes. It's amazing how big a cloud they carry around with them, like, a fifteen feet sphere around them. On more than one occasion I've changed what I'm doing just to get away from it.
