I think Ireland will have to beat Wales because I don't really see them losing to anyone else this year...maybe England..

I wouldnt go getting too far ahead of ourselves. We now have a target on our backs, everyone is going to have a go.

We need to set down a serious marker against england in round 1.

I'm fairly sure yeah. They are just "test matches" that happen to be doubling as warm ups.

I just ran through them again.

New Zealand don't really have any warm ups. They just have the rugby championship and then an extra game against Argentina and Samoa. Neither of which are worth anything in the rankings.

Basically, New Zealand are 1.37 points ahead and can obtain a maximum of 0.43 points (blowout win in Australia) before the world cup.

Ireland can obtain a maximum of 2.25 points by the end of the Six Nations which would be a grand slam whilst annihilating everyone. A grand slam is worth a minimum of 1.47 points. If we have bare minimum wins against everyone and lose to Wales by a small amount, we'll finish 0.59 down on our current position.

The permutations become really complication after that and you can't really calculate anything until we know where the rankings are after the Six Nations but the most important thing is that New Zealand can't make any real gains between now and the world cup. They can only really stand still or lose points.

Wales will be absolutely fuming with Bath. Rushed back for a dead rubber.

Are you really more likely to re-break a bone from being "rushed back"?

****ty things happen - look at SOB. Doesn't necessarily mean anyone is at fault.

Well yeah, a reoccurrence of an injury that you were recovering from is likely due to not being fully healed.

    Only two fly halves?

Horne and Laidlaw have both played internationally at 10.

Still seems a bit thin to only have two dedicated fly halves.

Seven debutants. You'd have to wonder, if this is with one eye on the RWC, whether Townie has left it too late to introduce these guys. They won't have a great deal of international rugby under their belt by September.

Edinburgh don't have a Scottish outhalf. Glasgow's outhalf, Hastings is named as is Finn Russell. Peter Horne is the back up Glasgow outhalf. The other outhalf in the Glasgow squad isn't Scottish

The only other option would have been to call up Duncan Weir from Worcester and they know he's not up to it.

RWC year. Even if he might not play in 6n he would be part if their plans for RWC so including him makes sense

only 5 dragons players, and only one of them a starter (due to falatau injury) and another a possible bencher (hill)

they really are a basket case

Are there only 5 Connacht players in the Ireland team? And they don't even have to compete with players abroad?

Yes but no Welsh team is standing out and doing well in their league or Europe, whereas leinster and Munster are among the four best in europe....so connacht players have a higher ceiling to meet.

Yeah but they have 6 non region players in that squad. I mean the Dragons are a basket case, but I don't think their lack of Welsh selection is really related.

Robson over Care is such a weird call. I'll never understand what goes on in Eddie's head.
