    A question for those who have imported a used i3 from the UK - I emailed bmw Ireland as to whether the AUC warranty (not the original 3 year one) would be honoured here and they said it was up to the individual service center to decide that.

    Anyone got any practical experience of this?

    If it’s at the whim of the dealer makes buying from a BMW dealer less attractive

    Is it really an issue though, what is the reliability record like? what can go wrong (in the real world, not anecdotal motor/electrics etc).
    In any case where are you, it's really not that far to NI

    They are BMW’s , they are complex and they will go wrong! I’d rather have the comfort of the warranty. In any case I got a call from Joe Duffy’s and they said they will honour the warranty

    There have been issues with steering, squeaking mainly fixed under warranty, don't think it was that common.

    Early Rex issues , again I think mostly resolved. It's always best to use it if you have it now and again than to sit idle for very long periods of time but as with any mechanical vehicle anything can happen.

    Someone can google and report back if there are many known issues.

    Where is the car? Would you not go fly over and drive it back yourself? Did that myself with a classic car in recent times and I really enjoyed the road trip / experience. Flew out early evening and was back home a bit after 11AM the next morning. Had some sleep too on the ferry.

    Too far for me to be comfortable on my first EV trip !!! If it was an ICE I’d do it myself

    From bringing many cars in from the UK over the years, you need to budget €500 if your bringing home yourself. So compare that to getting a company to deliver it for you.

    My rough calculations when considering a UK car :
    Flight €150 (I always seem to fly on an early morning Friday flight which are higher than at other tunes)
    Boat €200

    Fuel €100 depending on distance. I filled the F10 up leaving London last week at £1.50/L. Cost €106 on the credit card.
    Food and misc €50

    If I was buying an EV in the UK, I’d only collect now if around the 100 mile mark from the boat. I brought my leaf in from Scotland and it’s a tiring trip but you do get comfortable with the car and learn it’s behaviour.

    As I said earlier I used NVD.ie last year, but I was lucky as they were doing a special offer in February. Now, their website doesn't even mention private individuals, but since this is quiet time of year for them, still worth trying.

    Just search “car transporter” on DoneDeal and phone them all up, it depends on pickup location a lot but I’ve never paid more than €350 delivered to my door

    Got my car over from the UK midlands for €134 in total. Flight 40, ferry 58, petrol 20, snacks + bottle of wine 16 (free dinner and hot breakfast on ferry). If you don't drink wine and you get your electricity free, it can be done for under €100 :D

    €58. Monday night (Tuesday morning) 3:30AM nice and quiet sailing from Liverpool in September 2017

    Booked just the minimum - a seat - but got a free upgrade to a cabin just for myself. Also included a hot meal at night (beef stew with green beans and rice) and a hot fried breakfast in the morning. Woke up in view of the Dublin coastline, had a hot shower, hot breakfast and was home 30 minutes after disembarking :D

    You guys know by now I like to get good value for money :D:o:p

    There’s also the cost of a day minumum off work and when you’re on 20 days leave a year that counts a lot

    I'm self-employed. Left early evening and was back home by 11:30AM the next morning anyway, and worked (emails, calls) while waiting at various stages during my trip. No work time lost at all.

    Apologies if it already been asked but what are the service costs for rex model?

    Im thinking of the 94 AH bmwi3 rex but im wondering given it has a petrol engine is it much more expensive to service and does it need to only be done at a bmw garage or could any local mechanic service it?

    I assume it would need to be serviced by bmw to maintain any warranty but i think i will buy from UK given they seem to me much cheaper with better spec. I'm not sure if warranty is transferable?

    I've to bring mine in on the 28th so I'll let you know lol.

    I'm expecting it to cost more of course but having the Rex means much more to me than the extra servicing. Really all they have to do is change the oil and filters. Brake fluid and probably pollen filter.

    It was registered in March 2017 so this will be it's first service so I can live with the extra maintenance costs for the convenience of having the Rex, the time saved at busy chargers makes it worth every single cent !

    Its worth noting the €500 is a rule of thumb, by no means exact.
    I just budget the 500 for the total cost, and if it gets done cheaper then its a bonus.

    Not sure what site you're looking at but I'm just pricing a ferry from Liverpool myself and can easily get a €65 sailing. Flight to Manchester €28 and train GBP10. With expenses all in no more than about €130.

    Bought myself another classic car on eBay last night :o:p

    I actually don't know but I have them you would imaging they are standard.

    I didn't see keyless entry , it's handy but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

    Just the usual places you can book a ferry, but hint: it's a lot cheaper weekdays - particularly the 3AM sailing from L'pool!
