British runners now allowed in Ireland. IHRB basically forcing BHA's hand here. British racing will be back by the weekend now you'd have to think.

Seems a very strange decision to allow British horses over here at this stage!
As things stand they have an infected herd and we don't.

    It's 7 horses out of a tested... 2,000?

Also there was confirmed equine flu milling around Ireland a couple of weeks ago involving racehorses

The BHA changed the rules re vaccinations and whether a horse can run. Horses possible going to miss work if they need a vac. Lots of horses not having preps due to this change.

This is all falling into Irish horses' hands.

Vaccination changes also apply to Irish horses running in the UK as well as Irish horses needing to provide evidence of a negative test within 72 hours of entering a UK racecourse.

But the Irish horses are not going to miss any planned engagements.

Well it is likely this condition is going to be in place up to Cheltenham so they will if the goal is to end up there.

I think you might be missing the point here, the condition is that they have been vaccinated in the last 6 months, so there is plenty of time for any horse to be vaccinated in time for Cheltenham, the only ones inconvenienced are those that have to be vaccinated now and thus are not able to run for a week or two thus missing their prep run.

If a prep run was so badly needed they could just come to Ireland and vaccinate afterwards. I dont really see the difference tbh.

Best laid plans and all that, trainers have these things planned to the very finest of details, at least the goods ones do!

Smith will add a few more extra pounds cause the Irish horses will be fitter.

Often wondered if it was a strategy by Nicholls to ease off his horses in January as his results tend to taper off January/February each year. Now we know, he vaccinates his yard every January

He definitely alluded to this in his autobiography. He semi-peaks them to Christmas, eases off in January and February and then targets Cheltenham and Aintree. He had a good Christmas, I would definitely be keeping an eye on his better horses for Cheltenham and the Aintree Festival. It is not be beyond him to target his good ground horses at Punchestown either. He won a Galway Plate about ten years ago as well.
