I'm surprised Aslan haven't been mentioned (or have I missed it?), sure, not massively known internationally, but I can't think of anyone Irish in a pub who wouldn't sing along to either if these.

    or

    or Bagatelle?

The Frames revelate, may not stand the test of time like some mentioned but good song.

I haven’t heard that since Phantom fm. When I heard it a lot indeed I haven’t listened to much music since regulation of the airwaves.... just talking heads

Surely there has to be a place on the list for Whipping Boy, We Don't need nobody else?

I'd be sure to have U2, Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher and a sneaky bit of Bell X1 on the list too...
And Snow Patrol for sheer anthemic tunage.
    And surely...
Surely a bit of Therapy and Ash on the list too?

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright (you are amazing)
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance
And I have never seen that dress you're wearing
Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes
    I have been blind

Dirty Old Town is about Salford.

Zombie - The Cranberries, is by virtue of its global penetration, the biggest Irish song of all time, it has over 1 billion youtube hits, if you include all versions of it.

It's mad to think of it really, there are very few hits from that era that has anywhere close to that, there isn't one song from the britpop era, or the 80s or 90s that can equal it....when you think about it, even if you don't like the track, that is very impressive!
Out of every music video made before 2000 it's the second most viewed ever, only behind November Rain!

Cara Dillon has a few versions of She Moved Through the Fair, on youtube. I prefer her to Sinead O'Connor. This is another beautiful song, The Gem of the Roe.

And for a song in Irish, this is the one.

As a bohs man, I couldn't nominate anything other than 'hold me now' by Johnny Logan. LOI chaps will know well why. He also won the eurovision with same song a few years previously with said song. That has no relevance on the jodi stand however.

Love "This Is" by Aslan. Particularly that original version from the '80's. It's a timeless classic imo.

I also love this one by "The Adventures". It was a huge hit for them in 1988 but sadly they kinda faded away after this one big hit.

Don't know how ye guys don't know that the greatest Irish song of all time is the old standard Danny Boy. Hands down, across the generations in the diaspora :)

Should really be the national anthem rather than the current laborious thing that nobody really knows the words to. Only problem is the high note in the second part.

Was just about to post this!

Both Raglan Road and The Auld Triangle hold a special place in my heart as both were played at my Dad's funeral. The Old Man by The Fureys I love too, but can't listen to it without getting choked up.

Calling Card or a Million Miles Away by Rory Gallagher.

If anyone can post a link I would appreciate it but “Scorn not his simplicity” for me is an absolute classic. Irish to the hilt and a great piece of writing all round.

Derek Warfield and the Young Wolfe Tones do a great upbeat version of the anthem in English, The soldiers song
