Ethically we all lockdown. but where does they get us in the end if the healthcare setting is the primary cause.
Is there (unethically, but practically) anything to he said for welding nursing home doors and hospitals shut at this stage?

I see U2 donated €10m for PPE. They (particulary Bono) got alot of jibes earlier in the thread, I hope the same lads will be as quick to come out and say fair play. Thats a significant donation regardless of their wealth.0

I'm very sorry for your loss.
May she and all of those taken by this horrible virus rest in peace.
Every day when I hear the latest news, I pause for a few moments to think of them, and of all of the bereaved.0 -
This is what I’m hearing down the road from me all day long today. We may prepare for another surge in 2 weeks I think... I hope I’m wrong but i can’t imagine we are both having isolated incidents. One good thing is that the Gardai did a round in the car earlier and people kind of scurried inside quickly but they came back out once the coast was clear
Photos should be posted by Gardai. Doing that in UK.0 -

Is it ok if I don't pay tax next year and instead make a charitable donation of my own choosing to whatever charity I see fit? Would you be ok with that? It's just that I need to let my accountant know in good time.0 -

Hes more than a number, hes my family, hes someones husband, hes someones dad, someones son, someones uncle. and he is so alone. My hearts breaking.
Stay home, stay safe and god bless you all.

Deaths per 1 M pop. within Europe Only & excluding microstates. Note especially Slovakia - similar size and similar population to Ireland
This is a dumb comparison. Firstly, at the start of the year, Slovakia is not an extremely popular to how cold it is. Ireland is constant in it's toursits. Secondly, Ireland has an extremely populated capital. Bratislava does not have this issue. Finally, Irish people go on holiday to Italy during the winter months a lot more than Slovakian people would. All of those combined have led to us being way higher and Slovakia being way lower.
Look at all the countries in the top 10, they would mostly all be extremely popular all year round tourist destinations. That's led to an increase. Also, a lot of them have foreign students doing study abroad, or Irish students coming back from other countries they were studying in when the virus started to get bad but before we went into lockdown. Lots of reasons as to why a country like Ireland has it worse than Slovakia. Comparing population size and country size has no bearing on a disease transmitted by humans.0 -

Pre review paper from researchers in Shanghai.
Studied 175 people who recovered from Covid. From the mild cohort.
Found 30% had very low antibodies. 10% almost none. Antibodies less in younger. Increase in older people. May have significance for vaccine and herd immunity ideas. Needs further research. A lot.0 -

*"Recovered" rates are not reported by the Department of Health in the above link, these figures are taken from the Worldmeters and Johns Hopkins websites which use data suplied by the DoT to the ECDC under the WHO Guidelines for reporting. Recovered statistics can only be published as "recovered" following two successful tests of being clear of the virus under the WHO reporting guidelines, as a result it is likely the recovered data is skewed.
** Due to the above issue with reporting of revovered cases the number of active cases is also likely skewed.

Despite his appearance of professionalism and the sense of assurance he exudes, Holohan has been an unmitigated disaster from the outside. The sooner the fawning media spot this, the better. On every issue (Paddys Day, flights from Italy, Cheltenham, nursing homes) he has been weeks behind the curve, and this disease exacts the ultimate penalty for such incompetencemrkiscool2 wrote: »This is a dumb comparison.
Comparing population size and country size has no bearing on a disease transmitted by humans.
Oh and the Czech Republic is way better off than us. The Czechs receive over 20 million tourists per year, Ireland under 10 million. They have just over double the population, a much higher population density and far more people in shared housing. Oh and contrary to your lack of returning infected they had at the start and the same people coming back from Italy skiing and the like. Click here for this straight from a Czech boards member. They've also got one of the older populations in Europe too(average age mid 40's IIRC) And yet they got their finger out after a false start and if our figures matched theirs we'd have fifty dead not well over two hundred.Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
