    Yeah it's his partner, the video in the tweet would be a better angle. Picture just shows someone else also saw them.

    I agree hard to see distance, but given what's going on and them doubling down on the 2m it's not a great look.

    Piece in the Irish times this morning saying that Varadkar is considering an announcement in early June to bring forward the reopening if numbers continue as they are or fall further.

    Article seems to suggest that phase 4 could be brought forward to phase 3 for the end if June. No mention of phase 5.

    Also says minutes from NPHET in March show De Gascun flagging that 2m social distance would prove difficult and that the recommendation was to be 1m but 2m if possible.

    I'm guessing there will still be five phases, but that they'll move aspects of 4 forward to 3 and 5 forward to 4. I doubt they'll want people back in the office who don't need to be before phase 5, for example, because there's no need for it.

    But maybe they'll have the cop on to realize that they don't need to keep hairdressers shut til phase 4 or shopping centers shut til phase 5, and let restaurants open sooner as long as they've the right measures in place.

    And hopefully, let people travel the f*cking country to see their families.

    Absolutely.

    Though my partner already travels about 25km (within Dublin, on the M50) to see her family once a week. But only to sit outside in their garden and not get within 2km of them, so it's fine.

    It just makes no sense that it's OK for someone to do that within Dublin limits but I'm barred from doing the exact same with my family because they live in their country. Here's hoping I actually get to do it before late July, now.

    Good morning
    Reality is coming and it’s people who will be received state benefits and those who are on low incomes that will be hit the most as cuts will hurt financially and also affect them on education, health, housing
    - this crisis is not going to make us a socialist nirvana, it will lead to more of the haves and have nots just as did post 2008 but much worse this time

    People just need to wake up , everything is not going to be ok

    I read that article and they're suggesting that some aspects of the July 20th phase could be brought forward to June 29th. Unfortunately nothing mentioned for June 8th.

    I wouldn't suspect anything to deviate from the June 8th phase, they just won't take any chances. I'd be more hopefully of 3&4 coming together and 5 brought up to mid July.

    Apart from that I dont see much change myself

    Each week i travel about 320km to collect and drop off my daughter. No travel restriction is going to stop me from doing so nor have the Gardai at any checkpoint iv come across. I'm amazed at the amount of people who have stopped taking their kids just because they think they cannot travel. Some kids are missing on out having much needed interactions with both parents because of this stupid travel restriction when there is no need. Anyone parent who has to travel to see their kids can do so irrespective of what the travel limit is. Doing so is far more important than ahereing to some rediculous restriction.

    The sooner it is done away with the better as it means those people in fear of meeting a checkpoint can finally go out and see their families.

    The Irish Times also said previously that the school might reopen in mid May so I wouldn’t be casting too much veracity to the story.

    Oh I agree and I've gone further than 5k and even 20k myself but I know people who want to travel like the distance you've mentioned to see family but wont because of the fear that's been instilled that they'll be stopped at a checkpoint and could be arrested

    Well to be fair so did leading members of government. Someone is leaking info out, albeit to perhaps gauge the general public opinion, who knows.

    The funny thing is though that it actually says in the emergency legislation that was brought in that people could travel to tend to family members and for those who have to travel to take their kids dont do it because of the restrictions then they are fools. Dont get me wrong iv had members of the Gardai try tell me it isnt classed as essential travel but when you show them the above part in the legislation then what can they do but let you through? Thankfully they are no longer doing checkpoints on any route i take.

    well the lock down seems to be drifting away plenty of non local cars up here yesterday, surfboards and kayaks on the roof of cars. i suspect this lockdown (ish) will breakdown without the governments help. just like people locked down and went work from home before the government did, i suspect they will be following - again

    It is truly frightening the amount of people that have outsourced their critical thinking to politicians and bureaucrats.

    I remember the morning after the initial lockdown announcement, there was a guy on here wondering if he could travel back home from Dublin to his wife and kids.

    Some people are just more comfortable being told what to do all the time.

    The travel restriction doesn't apply in this situation.

    All we're doing now is stubbornly refusing to let people make a living and avail of services and an education.
    Everyone I know has broken at least some aspects of the social restrictions by now.

    ...but it's not okay for someone to do that within Dublin limits. The rules are the same for everyone.
